Continuity of Care Document (CCD) Quick Start Guide
The Continuity of Care Document Quick Start Guide (QSG) is provided free of charge by EHRVA, as a service to vendors and others who will be implementing healthcare documents based on the CCD Implementation Guide. EHRVA’s goal is to accelerate implementation of this standard which is endorsed by HIMSS, integral to several key HITSP interoperability specifications and IHE content profiles, and is expected to be required for CCHIT certification.
The CCD is a particular type of CDA document, a summary record of care as originally defined by ASTM as CCR and then jointly developed by ASTM and HL7 as CCD. Much of the CCD is reused in other types of documents defined by HITSP and IHE.
The link will download a zip file, which should be unzipped into its own folder as described in the included readme.txt file. The CCD QSG assumes as a prerequisite a basic knowledge of CDA. Many types of CDA documents exist, and the CCD is one example. The CCD QSG introduction includes references to other guides that will assist those who are not already familiar with CDA.
As the nation embarks on the widespread deployment of EHRs, a variety of concomitant challenges and barriers must be addressed.
